A fun-filled Earth Day celebration on Town Square happened this past Saturday, April 22. The event was attended by estimates of a thousand vendors, presenters and visitors, many of whom were also avid pizza lovers, if the line at Hog Hollow Wood Fired Pizza truck was any indication. The event was in collaboration with the Yancey County Farmers’ Market, now in its 25th year of operation. The day’s activities were a smashing success, despite the weather worries of the event planners, an all-too-common occurrence for outdoor spring events in western North Carolina. But it was a vision realized, bringing community groups and neighbors and friends together to celebrate Spring and beautiful nature on Earth Day, a day set aside in 1970 to call attention to the care of our beautiful planet. But to the event planners, EVERY day is Earth Day, and they want you to know it.
The season is just getting started, but you can expect all kinds of bounty, from meats and cheeses, to raw honey, baked goods, jewelry, wood and metal crafts. Produce includes spinach, kale, mushrooms, ramps, microgreens, and a lovely salad blend.
